A Classic Convertible

Sonawall™ sound technology A/V Innovations proudly introduces a classic audio experience with our convertible bookshelf speaker system. This modest size bookshelf speaker has a surprisingly extended frequency range of thirty-two to twenty thousand Hertz.

Fabrication in solid three-quarter inch oak on all six sides provides incredible strength. Optionally a spatial energy augmentation tweeter may be placed on top of the system. This optional conversion to three-way essentially enables the system to be either two or three way. Two high-frequency drivers in the three-way version are both capable of operation to twenty kilohertz so they have been designed to have a different spatial coverage to avoid interference. The upper additive tweeter mounts in its own “pod” which orients and angles it optimally. Start with the two-way version and convert later if desired.

Coherent and Natural
The design of the Sonawall CB system utilizes a two-inch hand-coated paper cone with a rubber surround for smooth, natural and extended response. The one-inch voice coil is fully one-half the diameter of the driver. This main HF driver has more dispersion at extreme high frequencies and less at lower frequencies than a typical conventional dome. This means a more gradual polar response roll-off and thus a more natural sound. Modern advanced rare-earth magnetic materials now makes this superior driver practical. A butter-smooth six-point-five inch woofer with an unusual extended response at both extremes works with the two-inch cone in an overlapping crossover at 1~2 kilohertz. This low and gradual crossover frequency range is only possible because each driver has a superb extended smooth range. Close proximity driver mounting and crossover at this unconventional lower frequency allows the system to function as a virtual point source - wavelengths of sound in air are longer than inter-driver mounted separation at the crossover frequency. Precise imaging and a natural stage on a “black” musical background have been achieved.

More Air
Capping the speaker with a superb quality 26mm dome tweeter the Sonawall CB speaker converts the system to fill the room with airy and energetic “highs” when this well-dispersed energetic sound is preferable. Three fine material variations in this tweeter dome are optionally available. The system becomes amazingly airy and startlingly present at the same time with a large precise image. The coherent image is both preserved and enlarged - a remarkable transformation.

Programmable
The Sonawall CB system concept employs an external adjustable rear-mounted crossover. This is unprecedented. This innovation is factory preset and need not be disturbed unless the energy tweeter is added. One jumper then needs to be placed. Small judicious changes in driver levels and woofer crossover frequency are possible. The convertible additive tweeter can also be variably crossed-over, muted or the level adjusted for incremental increases in “airiness“
